Basque MTB Coast:

If you want a light coastal cruise or some great single track then you would be missing out if you didn’t take part in the Basque Coast mountain bike holiday.

All their weeks are tailored to the guests and during the booking process we will discuss your requirements and make sure you are put in with a suitable group. Each week They aim to run two groups with a guide, driver, van and trailer each to allow people to choose the group which best suits their level.

The terrain in the Basque Country is very varied and they can offer mountain bike holidays for almost all levels, although due to the terrain here it isn´t suitable for beginners. The Basque Coast holiday offers a wider range of technical difficulty than our other trips and we can offer relaxed weeks for inexperienced riders or make the riding as difficult as you would ever want with very technical and steep descents.

To enjoy their mountain bike holiday on the Basque Coast you will need a moderate level of fitness, there is very little flat ground in this part of Spain so every holiday we offer has some climbing. They have two dedicated vans and trailers offering uplift most days though, and they offer from 30 to 80% upliftdepending on the group meaning daily climbs of between 300m and 1000m and descents of up to 3000m.

What an amazing day with such a great bike company! Doug and Benat, you were awesome! We are already planning on coming back as soon as humanly possible. We could not have chosen better, more incredible trails if we tried!! You made the day fun, challenging and full of sweet, sweet flow! Can’t wait to ride with you again this week. Just finished a week with BasqueMTB on their Basque Coast trip, based in Hondarribia – and what a week it was!

I’ve never done a guided trip like this before, so wasn’t sure what to expect before going – but it smashed my expectations in all aspects!

The accommodation in Hondarribia is great. Easy walk into town for evening food and entertainment, a huge garage for fettling with bikes after each days ride and stunning views from the back garden looking out over Hondaribbia and on to the border with France. We had a BBQ one evening with all the other guests (10 of us in total) which was a great way to end a day on the trails.

The riding itself was amazing – there is a huge number of trails that these guys have built, and they can tailor each day for the abilities/tastes of the group. I wasn’t sure before I went how well it would compare to the week I spent in Austria last year (at various bike parks) – but it was definitely as good if not better! If you want it, there are some super steep, super fast and really technical trails to be ridden. Some of the best riding I’ve ever had!

All the guides were great – and Doug was really helpful all week. My front brake totally failed on the first day, and he went out of his way to help get me back up and running so I didn’t miss any riding.

I’d definitely recommend this trip to anyone – you definitely won’t be disappointed.

I’m trying to figure out now how I can work the the Back Country trip into my holiday plans for next year, so I can get back out there!
